Vanaprastha Diksha

Vanaprastha translates as retire to the forest.

Transition to the status of a Vanaprastha is possible from the status of a grihastha or karma-sannyasy, after the children reach adulthood and their fate is arranged.

Vanaprastha undertakes to make the search for God (attaining Moksha) the main goal of his life, performing the necessary yoga practices of his lineage and upasanas, serving the Guru, Dharma and his Sangha.

The fundamental principle is detachment from worldly and personal goals and values (leaving the path of anava-marga) and relying on the Divine will in all actions and events that occur.

Vanaprasha accept the 8 duties of a karma sannyasy, as well as:

• to honor and serve the Three Jewels;
• perform the necessary obedience from the Sangha;
• observe the rules of Vinaya (samaya) and ethics for Vanaprastha;
• be diligent in the practice, service and study of the Dharma;
• undergo training in stages and follow the retreat rule;
• participate in the collective practices of the monastic ashram;
• adhere to self-discipline, i.e. control of behavior, desires, thoughts and emotions;
• overcome the difficulties of a hermit's life, not be attached to convenience and comfort.
